Glass Splashbacks
Technical Information

General  Glass splashbacks can be installed almost anywhere that wall tiles have traditionally been used. Typically they are used in kitchens, bathrooms and laundries.   _______________________________________________________

Glass  Glass splashbacks are usually 5 mm thick, which combines the best colour representation with safety and code compliance. Cabinet doors are usually 4 mm thick and we recommend toughened safety glass, especially for full-length doors.
Standard clear glass is inherently green, which lends a green tinge to any colour coating beneath. This has the strongest effect on light or neutral colours. Darker colours are rendered approximately ¼ shade darker. Where colour match is particularly important we recommend the use of low iron glass which is almost completely clear and has a far lesser effect on the colour coating.

Colours  You may choose from the colour charts of the major manufacturers, such as Resene, Dulux, British Paints. We also provide a colour matching service.
When choosing your colour bear in mind the points made above and check the appearance of your colour by holding it behind regular clear class.

Safety  Splash Glass is always mindful of safety. NZS526.1:2003 requires glass splashbacks installed within 200 mm of a gas hob to be made from 5 mm thick toughened safety glass. All glass splashbacks installed in a bathroom must be in 5 mm toughened glass.
Glass that is more than 200 mm from a heat source may be in annealed (ordinary non-safety) glass. Whereas this is cheaper and the installed glass is unlikely to break, colour matching could be difficult could be difficult if it had to be replaced in future. We definitely recommend toughened glass where there are cutouts for electrical sockets, rails, fixings etc., to provide  sufficient strength. _______________________________________________________

Installation  Coated wall glass is generally affixed with a special adhesive that will not react with the colour coating. Clear or frosted glass must be fixed with stainless steel fixings as the adhesive will be visible behind. Also, dirt and insects might be able to get in behind the glass requiring it to be removed for cleaning.   _______________________________________________________

Size / Shape  Splash Glass will custom-make your splashback for the location. Where there is a special shape we will make a template to ensure an accurate fit. All visible edges are polished.  _______________________________________________________

Holes  Cutouts for power points and switches can be put in your splashbacks. These should be a minimum of 50 mm from the edge of the glass.
_______________________________________________________

Lead Times  Your splashback will normally take approximately 2-3 weeks to make.   _______________________________________________________

Guarantee  Your splashback is guarantee for 10 years against delamination of the colour coating.
