Do-It-Yourself Glass Splashback - We make DIY Splashbacks easy

You can easily fit your splashback yourself by following carefully the instructions below. Please study them carefully before you start. Do be very careful to protect the coated side from damage.

You will need the following equipment:

  • The correct adhesive/sealant (we supply),
  • tape measure,
  • masking tape and (if the splash back is not sitting on a bench top) a length of timber or board with a straight edge and some panel pins).

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Ensure that the surface of the wall is sound, properly sealed and free of dust and dirt, flat and level and suitable for fixing a glass splashback.
  2. Any gap between the benchtop and the wall must be sealed to exclude moisture.
  3. Carefully measure the wall and mark out the correct position for the splashback.
  4. If the splashback is to sit on a bench top, apply a thin line of the recommended adhesive/sealer along the back of the bench where it meets the wall to ensure that any gap between wall and bench is sealed.
  5. If the splash back is not to be supported by a bench top, pin a piece of timber or board to the wall or carefully prop up the glass with timber supports to support the splashback in the correct position whilst the adhesive cures. If the splashback is not supported at the bottom whilst the adhesive cures it is likely to fall off the wall.
  6. Carefully lay the splashback face down on the bench top or other suitable surface and apply a few dobs of the recommended sealer/adhesive, evenly spaced around the back. (Ensure that you do not apply the adhesive/sealant too close to the edges of the splashback).
  7. Carefully push the splashback onto the wall, ensuring that the adhesive/sealant spreads out on the back to provide a good seal.
  8. If you applied the adhesive/sealant too close to the edge of the splashback it might leak out from the sides. If this happens clean it off the wall as soon as you have safely secured the splashback.
  9. Use the masking tape to secure the splashback to the wall whilst the adhesive/sealant cures. Leave in place for at least 48 hours.
  10. After the adhesive/sealant has cured and you have removed the masking tape, and timber support (if used), apply a THIN bead of the recommended adhesive/sealer around all exposed edges.

It does not take much adhesive to safely secure the glass. Ensure that the splashback sits snugly against the wall and that it does not rock or move when pressure is applied.

NOTE

The adhesive might show through for a few days, especially with certain metallic colours. This effect will fade after a few days and should be gone after about a week.

AFTERCARE

Your splashback should be cleaned regularly using a proprietary glass cleaner such as Mr Muscle Glass Cleaner. Stubborn stains may be removed with methylated spirits. Under no circumstances use an abrasive cleaner or material.

WARNING

Use only the recommended adhesive/sealant (supplied). Failure to do so could result in damage to the colour coating and even the splashback falling off the wall. Failure to use the recommended product will invalidate your guarantee.

Neither Splash Glass nor your supplier will accept any responsibility for a faulty installation that was done independently of them.

ADVISORY

Consult your Splash Glass agent if you do not feel fully competent to fit your splash back yourself. They will be able to advise you on arranging for professional installation.
