Do-It-Yourself Glass Splashback -  We make DIY Splashbacks easy

You can easily f it your splashback yourself by following carefully the instructions below. Please study them carefully before you start. Do be very careful to protect the coated side from damage. You will need the following: the correct adhesive/sealant, tape measure, masking tape and (if the splash back is not sitting on a bench top) a length of timber or board with a straight edge).

Although your glass splashback is suitable for use with a gas hob, you must ensure that it is situated in such a way that the flame cannot come into direct contact or close proximity to it. Generally, this means ensuring that the hob is at least 50mm from the face of the splashback.

1 Ensure that the surface of the wall is sound, properly sealed and free of dust and dirt, flat and level and suitable for fixing a glass splashback.

2 Carefully measure the wall and mark out the correct position f or the splashback. Ensure that there is a small gap (approx. 2mm) between the splashback and the rangehood.

3 If the splashback is to sit on a bench top, apply a thin line of the recommended adhesive/sealer along the back of the bench where it meets the wall to ensure that any gap between wall and bench is sealed.

4 If the splash back is not to be supported by a bench top, pin a piece of timber or board to the wall or carefully prop up the glass with timber supports to support the splashback in the correct position whilst the adhesive cures. If the splashback is not supported at the bottom whilst the adhesive cures it is likely to fall off the wall.

5 Carefully lay the splashback face down on the bench top or other suitable surface and apply carefully the recommended sealer/adhesive . (Ensure that you do not apply the adhesive/sealant too close to the edges of the splashback).

6 Carefully push the splashback onto the wall, ensuring that the adhesive/sealant spreads out on the back to provide a good seal. Pull the splashback away from the wall a little to allow the adhesive to cobweb and then push it back into place. (Cobwebbing helps the adhesive to cure)

7 If you applied the adhesive/sealant too close to the edge of the splashback it might leak out from the sides. If this happens clean it off the wall as soon as you have safely secured the splashback.

8 You can use use the masking tape to secure the splashback to the wall whilst the adhesive cures if you are concerned about it falling. Initial curing takes about 24 hours.

9 When the adhesive/sealant has cured and after you have removed any masking tape, apply a THIN bead of the recommended sealant around all exposed edges.

NOTE

The adhesive might show through f or a few days, especially with certain metallic colours. This effect will f ade after a few days and should be gone after about a week.

AFTERCARE

Your splashback should be cleaned regularly using a proprietary glass cleaner such as Mr Muscle Glass Cleaner. Stubborn stains may be removed with methylated spirits. Under no circumstances use an abrasive cleaner or material.

WARNING

Use only the recommended adhesive/sealant (supplied). Ensure that a gas hob is installed in such a way that the flame cannot come into direct contact or close proximity to it. Failure to do so could result in damage to the colour coating and will invalidate your guarantee.

Splash Glass will not accept any responsibility for a faulty installation
